Expected Learning

00 / queue

Two pipelines,left to right.

In the order we currently believe in. Buyer feedback reorders them; dates are promises we refuse to fake.

$ queue --show features: drill mode is next languages: java is next RUNNING - one thing at a time, properly.

01 / the feature pipeline

Built once, lands everywhere

Built once, lands in every product - Java today, the rest as they ship.

The status pipeline

RESEARCHING›NEXT›DRAFTED›BUILT›TESTED›LIVE
next Drill mode Passed katas return cold. Spaced repetition on real tools.
drafted The transcript Verifiable proof of what the tools watched you do.
drafted Your tests, graded You write the test; our broken code must fail it.
drafted Coaching that notices Local-only nudges from where your hints ran dry.
drafted Make it yours Font, size, accent, theme for the panel. Every product.
drafted The grand capstone One product across every track. The job simulation.

02 / the language pipeline

One engine, one language at a time

Each syllabus is public before a line of it ships.

next Java 180 lessons, full gate CI-green on Windows, macOS and Linux - launching next; store not yet open. Syllabus.
tested C 186 lessons, CI-verified on Windows, WSL, Linux and Apple Silicon macOS (Intel same code, not yet CI-confirmed) - GDB, Valgrind, pthreads. Syllabus.
tested Python 180 lessons - debugpy, FastAPI, real Postgres. Free lessons CI-green on Windows, macOS and Linux; the full edition on macOS and Linux, Windows in verification. Syllabus.
tested Frontend 165 lessons, full gate CI-green on Windows, macOS and Linux - the JS debugger, React, real HTTP. Syllabus.
drafted PHP 200 drafted - Xdebug, Laravel, Eloquent. Syllabus.

03 / the jetbrains family

One school per IDE, researched first

Every Expected school is being researched for a JetBrains edition - same lessons, same receipts, graded by each IDE's own real tools. Nothing below is built; this is the reading, in public.

Expected Learning for Java
Lesson01.java
  1. public class Lesson01 {
  2. public static void main(String[] args) {
  3. int price = 100;
  4. int total = applyDiscount(price);
  5. System.out.println("Total to pay: " + total);
  6. }
  7. static int applyDiscount(int price) {
  8. int discounted = price - (price / 10);
  9. discounted = discounted - (discounted / 10);
  10. return discounted;
  11. }
  12. }

design study: the Expected panel inside IntelliJ IDEA - a researched mockup, not a shipped product
researching IntelliJ IDEA Expected Learning for Java. Same 180 lessons, graded by the IDE's own JDWP debugger and real Postgres. Research: the licence, grading and content engines port without change - only the panel and debugger hooks are new.
researching PyCharm Expected Learning for Python. Same lessons, debugpy and real services, inside PyCharm's free core tier. Research: PyCharm unified its free tier in 2025 - the free sampler model fits it.
researching CLion Expected Learning for C. The first candidate: gdb and lldb sit closest to CLion's own debugger. Research: C goes first - its graders and encrypted pack port with the least new machinery.
researching WebStorm Expected Learning for Frontend. The JS school in JetBrains' web IDE - free for non-commercial use. Research: the zero-dependency node graders run unchanged; only the panel is new.
researching PhpStorm Expected Learning for PHP. Follows the PHP school itself - drafted lessons first, then any port. Research: sequenced behind the VS Code edition; nothing promised before it.
researching IntelliJ-based IDEs Expected Learning for DevOps. No single IDE owns operations - the home is the platform, chosen when the school ships. Research: waits on the DevOps school passing its own CI gate first.

04 / infrastructure

Not a language

The delivery half of the job, now in development alongside the language family's launch queue.

in development DevOps In development - all 146 lessons written; all nine tracks complete, troubleshooting first. Not yet through the CI gate: verification and release next. Syllabus.

The queue moves left to right. In public.
